9/11 was not an act by some evil terrorist organization. 9/11 was blowback/payback for the U.S. military troops in Saudi Arabia, criminal destruction of the Al-Shifa pharmaceutical plant in Sudan, and a hard-line foreign policy that refuses to recognize that the U.S. is assisting Israel in the illegal occupation (theft) of Palestinian lands and the almost daily killing of Palestinian people. Standard U.S. policy is to tell the Palestinian leadership that unless they stopped all terrorist acts, then the U.S. will not help them.
Although that might seem reasonable to many Americans, it is a little like the referee (the U.S.) telling one boxer (Palestine) to not raise an arm, while allowing the other boxer (Israel) to keep hitting. Someone in the audience (Al Qaeda) couldn’t stand it and threw four bottles at the referee (the U.S.).
Yes, I know that it wasn’t four bottles, but four jumbo jets each filled with passengers. Yes, I know that two of those jumbo jets hit the World Trade towers, killing thousands of people. The point is, did you realize that we (the U.S.) are not an innocent party, if our foreign policy results in the death of hundreds of thousands in the Middle East? Do you realize that the Sharon government in Israel which we support openly endorses the occupation (theft) of Palestinian lands and has continued doing it both before and after 9/11, during periods of terrorist bombings, as well as during periods of relative peace. Israel has killed at least 3 times as many Palestinians, yet Israel consistently claims the status of victim. The point is, if you truly want to achieve peace and reduce anger in the world, you need to be more truthful and fair.
Even Israel knew that 9/11 was largely because of them. Immediately after 9/11, the Israeli government issued a statement stating: “The fight against terror is an international struggle of the free world against the forces of darkness who seek to destroy OUR liberty and OUR way of life. I believe that together, we can defeat these forces of evil.” Bush quickly made it clear that Israel would continue getting our one-sided support by attacking Muslim nations. In the quest to fight terrorism, we created more world terror, and made our nation the most feared aggressor on the planet. Teddy Roosevelt used the phrase, “Walk softly and carry a big stick.” Bush should have the phrase, “Neo-con ends justify the means” (see Neo-cons). Consequently, 9/11 has been successfully portrayed as an unwarranted attack on an innocent nation, and that we need to go on a “War On Terrorism.” That successful propaganda has allowed our government: to curtail domestic civil rights, to promote fear that caused our domestic economy to crash, and to invade two other countries for control and exploitation. We did not reassess our position on Israel. We decided to emulate Israel, by definition a terrorist nation with nuclear weapons (see Weapons of Mass Destruction).
The people of the United States need to wake up from their collective fantasy. We are not the “good guy” but rather the “class bully” with a fantastic public relations team (see Propaganda). Just about everyone in the world fears the U.S., either for our financial power or our military power (Bush’s “carrot and stick” foreign policy). First, we offer a carrot IF you do what we want you to do. Second, if you don’t play along with us, then we try to get rid of you, using our huge financial power or CIA covert operations to undermine you. If that doesn’t work, we accuse you of being a dictator nation that supports terrorism, and we get rid of you with our military stick (see Globalization).
9/11 was our wake up call because prior to that nobody had an alarm clock big enough for us to hear. But Bush has been successful at convincing us to go back to sleep. He tells us that his “War on Terrorism” will rid the world of alarm clocks. He doesn’t want you to know that there are already 30,000+ nuclear alarm clocks out there, and everyone who fears or hates us will be attempting to make or get one. And, since nukes can fit in a suitcase, it is deception and a waste of tens of billions of dollars to create a missile defense network.
Instead of going back to sleep, we need to wake up and smell the coffee. We are not the “good guys”(see Propaganda). We need to change our way of dealing with the world. Instead of dealing from the bottom of the deck, we need to play fairly. One-sided interests must not be allowed to control U.S. domestic and foreign policy. The Neo-con corporate capitalist cannot be allowed to continue to take democracy away from the rest of the world. Might doesn’t make right. Might (bullying) makes retaliation, as shown by 9/11.
UPDATE (from 2004): 9/11 was an inside job. World Trade Center 7 (WTC7) was not hit by a jet, yet still fell like a controlled demolition, because it was a controlled demolition (like WTC1 and 2).
