Part of that goal of raising children intelligently is to allow each child to become a unique individual. That means that there isn’t one set way of raising children. Here are some guidelines that might help:
Who?
The parents must be intelligent enough to know that they need to learn and work at raising children. Everyone else must realize that they need to support this activity. I wrote this book to help in this cause. Other people can certainly help in thousands of ways.
What?
The goal is, “To raise children intelligently” (see Why We Are Here). Intelligence involve more than just knowledge (see Bloom’s Taxonomy). Education involves “Learning to see the invisible” (see Education). Ethics and morals can be taught with religion or with other books and stories (see Religion). Happiness can be achieved with understanding (see How to Find Happiness). Health can be understood better with understanding (see Gluttony, Exercise).
When?
This begins at our birth, not at the birth of our children. We must begin with ourselves, in order to have any success with children. Every moment we are awake, we need to be working toward this goal, either directly or indirectly. Every moment the child is awake, they also should be trying to learn and work towards this goal. Intelligence is a very large goal, which easily will take a lifetime, or more, to attain.
Where?
Everywhere: at home, at school, at work, at play, in-between. At home, parents and siblings need to work at it. At school, administrators, teachers, and fellow students need to work at it. At play, people still need to work at it, just using a different approach (see Competition). In-between everywhere else is still an appropriate time to be working at it.
How?
This is the tricky part. With love, understanding, kindness, wisdom, intelligence and patience. As I am writing this, I realize that it is sounding like propaganda or social-indoctrination. In some ways it is, as intelligence takes tens of years to start to set. Just realize that consumerism is already being taught in a similar manner, and few people think that is so terrible. From the moment you wake until the time you go to sleep, you are being taught consumerism. There are invitations to buy brand clothes, brand breakfast foods, brand soap and toothpaste.
Why?
So that our lives can become enriched, and the children can repeat this cycle. Currently, the world we live in will not be sustainable if we continue along the same path. Everyone should already know that corporations only care about short-term profits. If we want a sustainable future for our children and their children, we need to demand that the
