Humans Are Blind, Talk1

EVIDENCE 1, HUMANS ARE BLIND TO THEIR OWN BLINDNESS.

This first talk is the most important first step. Just like a person who does not think he is ill, will not want to take any medicine… a human that does not think that they are blind, will not be interested in taking any medicine … in order to see that which is invisible to them… what they are blind too.

First, who is a human? (all humans raise their hand)

Second, what does it mean to be blind? Legally, a person who sees less than 20% of what is normal is legally blind. These are people who can see a little, but are still legally blind. When Mw says that humans are blind, he knows that humans can see a little.

Third, what are other ways of describing human blindness? Humans are: living In the dark, superficial, handicapped, etc. Mw uses “blind”, since humans see so little.

A) Humans are blind to the fact that seeing is a continuum and that humans only see a small portion of that continuum. Humans view the world from a human perspective, so they think that they can see everything that is important. Science has instruments that can measure electromagnetic radiation and visible light is only a small portion of that spectrum. If one foot represented how large the human visible spectrum is, then one mile would represent what is invisible to humans (TV/radio waves to cosmic rays).

B) Humans are blind to how superficially they view everything. For example, who has seen the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans? (raise hands) The horizon is about 3 miles, so humans only see 3 miles of those oceans, which is a tiny fraction. Also, most have traveled less than a few feet under the surface, which is a tiny fraction of the depth of the ocean. None-the-less, humans think/believe they see the ocean, when they really only see the surface. This is an example of how superficial human sight is. From a human perspective, they think that is good enough, never recognizing how much they are missing… how blind they are to all the rest.

C) Education/Knowledge is an important component of sight. A human can see a tall plant, could see that it is a tree, could notice that it has fruit, might know they are apples, might know that they are Fuji apples, and might see that they are ripe or not. From the individual human perspective, any of those levels of “knowledge” might be called “seeing”, but the more one can see makes a huge difference. A farmer can “see” so much more in his fields than a typical human can. Most humans are essentially blind to all the hard work and knowledge that successful farmers must do/have. This also applies to all skilled/specialized work. Humans only superficially see what is involved and are blind to all of the detailed knowledge.

Humans view the world through their own eyes and mind… what could be called the human perspective. This human perspective makes it seem that they see almost everything (80-90%), but a more objective assessment would be that humans only see /know a small amount. Only when humans recognize this reality… that Humans Are essentially Blind… will they be willing or interested in getting better… willing to put in the effort to learn to see more.
